Overview

The ESG Practices and Report in Tourism & Hospitality course is designed to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of best practices and market trends in the design, implementation and disclosure of information and transparency of a corporate sustainability strategy.

 

Participants will have the opportunity to visit the key concepts related to the subject under study and delve into topics such as the impact/contribution of the T&H industry to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks in the value chain, the key arguments of a sustainable action plan, among others, which will equip them with the necessary knowledge to address the challenges and opportunities related to sustainability in this industry and promote responsible practices that minimise its negative impacts.

  • Key concepts of sustainability and their relationship to the Tourism & Hospitality (T&H) industry;
  • Legislative and regulatory framework (e.g. Taxonomy Regulation and Delegated Acts, SFDR Regulation, CSRD Directive);
  • SDG T&H: impacts, trends and current challenges;
  • Designing a corporate sustainability strategy (hands-on workshop);
  • Components for an Action Plan:
    • Social responsibility (inclusion and accessibility) and cultural responsibility;
    • Involvement and integration of local communities;
    • Conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems;
    • Circularity and use of resources (e.g. water, waste);
    • Energy efficiency and sufficiency;
    • Sustainable mobility.
  • Sustainable Corporate Governance;
  • Sustainability Reporting (GRI, TCFD, CSRD Directive);
  • Seminar (with external guest): promoting sustainable tourism companies and destinations.
Learning Outcomes

The ESG Practices and Report in Tourism & Hospitality course will enable you to acquire fundamental knowledge and skills to respond to the challenges currently facing organisations in the T&H industry in the context of sustainable development.

 

In particular, it will enable professionals to acquire skills in rethinking current strategies and action practices to pursue relevant environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives and disseminate ESG information.

Managing partner of Lasting Values

She has been working on climate and sustainability for 25 years. She began her career at NOVA FCT, teaching for ten years. She took part in several landmark studies to support environmental policy in Portugal. She was a climate advisor to the Portuguese government, a national delegate to the UNFCCC and a member of the European Commission’s EU Further-Action Group for Climate Change (2000/04).

In 2004, she co-founded a consultancy and development company in environmental and energy economics and engineering, a national benchmark in its areas of activity. In 2005, she launched the first voluntary carbon market instrument in Portugal, winner of a Stevie® Award, whose operation has expanded to Spain and Brazil.

A specialist in the economics of natural resources, net zero, climate resilience and the (bio-)circular economy, she has solid skills and vast experience in executive management and consultancy, anchored in a long history of leading projects in organisations and companies from different sectors and geographies.

She is the managing partner of Lasting Values.
