Module 04- Strategic Communication and Sustainable Communication Strategies

Communication is fundamental to the success of public policies, strategies, plans, and projects. Strategic communication reinforces identity, culture, and values; positions and promotes a distinctive image; informs, disseminates, and raises awareness; sensitizes, inspires, and mobilizes people and organizations—it creates and strengthens relationships. Strategic communication and communication strategies are vital for organizations—what is not communicated does not exist; value that is not communicated is value lost; where there is value and innovation, communication must exist.

Module 04- Strategic Communication and Sustainable Communication Strategies
Overview

The course Strategic Communication and Sustainable Communication Strategies identifies and highlights the importance of communication for the success of public policies, strategies, plans, or projects. As a starting point, it differentiates between strategic communication and communication strategies.

Strategic communication supports the achievement of organizational or institutional objectives. It aligns communication with an organization’s values, mission, and goals, using appropriate channels, languages, and approaches to engage broad target audiences. It positions, strengthens reputation, and promotes involvement, commitment, and motivation.

Sustainable communication strategies promote communication practices aligned with environmental, social, economic, and cultural sustainability, mobilizing audiences around sustainable topics while respecting ethical and transparency principles.

Learning Outcomes

The course Strategic Communication and Sustainable Communication Strategies aims to raise awareness of the importance of communication and its priority and fundamental role, equipping participants with tools to develop sustainable communication strategies and plans.

Strategic communication must ensure that everyone communicates harmoniously with “one voice”—integrated and consistent—telling the same, unique story to broad audiences, supporting the organization’s unified strategy with a long-term perspective that is more proactive and less reactive.

Entities and organizations that operate—or intend to change their positioning and performance in terms of sustainability—must align all their communication (branding, advertising, institutional actions, internal culture) with this direction.

The operationalization of strategic communication is carried out through the implementation of communication strategies, which define and execute specific tactics and actions to achieve predetermined objectives.
