Simão Gonçalves is currently a Data Scientist at Hospital da Luz Learning Health, a research company within Hospital da Luz that leverages the vast amount of medical data for research and development, in order to improve the hospital’s services and quality of care.

He is responsible for putting the hospital’s first machine learning model into production, which works alongside nurses in the inpatient care department.

With a Master’s degree in Data Science, Simão’s specialization lies both in data analysis and in the application of machine learning and deep learning models to medical data.

His master’s thesis explored the prediction of future diagnoses based on a patient’s medical history. He also worked closely with the team at Hospital Garcia de Orta to analyze the impact of a medical intervention carried out on 300 patients. Simão also has a track record of organizing several data science workshops in recent years, having taught more than 200 students in this field.
