The course Blue Economy and Sustainable and Regenerative Development offers a holistic view and a comprehensive understanding of the traditional and emerging sectors and economic activities within the sustainable and regenerative blue economy, including the characterization of their value chains, stakeholders, and opportunities.
It also identifies and describes the global challenges faced by the blue economy, linked to the triple planetary crisis—climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution—while presenting adaptation and mitigation solutions.
The Law of the Sea and the regulations related to maritime spatial planning are introduced as foundational pillars supporting sustainable economic development. In this context, the different maritime zones and boundaries are examined, along with their respective rights of jurisdiction and sovereignty.
