Nuno is an Assistant Professor at NOVA School of Science and Technology. In 2004, he has got is Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering by NOVA University in the framework of a European project coordinated by the Company Soletanche-Bachy (FR) and with the participation of the Companies Inertec (FR), Sobry-Shanks (BE), and Solvay (BE). This European consortium developed several new materials for civil engineering applications based on the reuse of bottom ashes from the incineration of municipal solid wastes.

Nuno has been responsible for studying the chemical and ecotoxicological behaviour of the new materials. Between 2012 and 2013, he was a visiting professor at the Catholic University of Leuven – KU Leuven (BE) in the Department of Earth Sciences and Environment, in which he has been involved in the Life Cycle Analysis of wood products from the European forests.

Since his Ph.D., Nuno has developed several national and European projects with Companies. The most recent project involves Valorpneu S.A. (PT) and aims to recycle spent tyre rubber to be used in the recovery of rare-earth elements from wastes of electric and electronic equipment. In all his works, he includes the Life Cycle Analysis methodology to support the environmental assessment of new products or production processes.
