Pedro Viana Baptista graduated from Faculdade Farmácia, Lisbon University in 1996. He then attained his PhD in Human Molecular Genetics from the School of Pharmacy, University of London (2000), after which he started at FCT, UNL as Assistant Professor of Molecular Genetics.

Pedro is Full Professor in Molecular Genetics & Nanomedicine at FCT/UNL, and coordinates the Nanomedicine Group at FCT NOVA focused on biofunctionalization of nanoparticles with targeting and silencing moieties and their application in drug delivery and/or gene silencing, in the assessment of toxicology of nanoparticles in in vivo models, in the development of nanobiosensors and microfluidic devices for diagnostic applications, and DNA/RNA biomolecular recognition studies.

Pedro has an extensive expertise in Biosensors and Molecular Diagnostics, Nanotechnology towards effective therapeutics in cancer.

Pedro is Fellow from The Royal Society of Biology in UK, an award and fellowship granted to individuals that the Royal Society of Biology has adjudged to have made a “prominent contribution to the advancement of the biological sciences, and has gained no less than five years of experience in a position of senior responsibility”
