Júlia Seixas

Associate Professor with habilitation

Júlia Seixas coordinates a research group on Energy and Climate – CENSE – for more than 15 years, devoted to research sustainable and neutral energy systems to mitigate climate change. Young scientists, including pos-docs, PhD and master students, develop research based on energy-environment-economy modelling tools (IEA-TIMES model, LEAP model, and GEM-E3 model). Recently, research interests were expanded to include the linkages between energy and water and food, at national, city, and district level.

Quantitative tools have been merged with social methods, as co-creation processes, to identify social sound innovative solutions. The research activities rely on strong collaboration with European colleagues, through EU born projects. Julia Seixas uses to be invited by policy bodies (e.g. Portuguese Government) to coordinate policy studies (e.g. Portuguese Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality up to 2050), and by private companies (e.g. EDP, APREN). In 2016 Julia Seixas brought the Climate-KIC to Portugal (being FCT NOVA a partner) and, since then, she coordinates the Climate-KIC Hub Portugal devoted to develop activities (advanced education, profissional education, ideation and pathfinder projects) within the European network to boost the Portuguese innovation potential towards a competitive economy with no carbon emissions.

Júlia Seixas is Associate Professor with habilitation at NOVA School of Science Technology and serves as head of the Environmental Department Science& Engineering since 2017. She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the UL-UNL Joint PhD Program on Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies.

Júlia has more than 70 publications in refereed journals and conferences. She is frequently invited by public and private organisations to make presentations on climate change and carbon economy, as well as on sustainable and clean energy futures.
